Testimonial for the Portugal Trip
This is Debi Bridgforth, I travel with the Danville Va Chamber, we just recently returned from Portugal. I want to thank you and Oliver for an incredible trip. My son and I had an amazing time! We loved seeing such a beautiful country and drinking wonderful wines. The Hotels were all great, our Guide was very knowledgeable and our Driver was excellent too. I know that Fátima was centrally located and we enjoyed the Apollo Cafe with a small group from our trip. We enjoyed SINTRA and the Palace( it reminds me of the Alhambra). The town of ALCOABACA was ok but we loved the WINE MUSEUM! I really loved OBIDOS, would have liked a bit more time there, we stopped at BAHTALA to see the Gothic Cathedral, it was gorgeous. Next was PORTO, a beautiful city, I loved the Central Market, wow shopping while sipping a delicious wine! We walked through the City Center and saw the beautiful architecture, then we had lunch on the bank of the Douro River, which was very enjoyable. I believe we all really liked the Villa Gale Porto Hotel, the breakfast was extremely good. Next we went to the DOURO RIVER VALLEY, OMG one WOW after another we drove on the back roads and I was awestruck by the beauty and the fact that the Vineyards were cultivated by hand so long ago and on such steep slopes. I enjoyed the River Cruise because it really showed how steep the Vineyards were. Our next stop was QUINTA DA PACHECO Winery. OMG the Lunch was delicious, the best I’d had in Portugal. We had a great tour of the Winery with a really good explanation of PORT wines, then the Tasting Room. Now I’m totally in love with Tawny Port! We drove back to Porto and enjoyed another delicious meal at TAYLOR’s Winery. The dinner was delicious and the service was excellent. It’s interesting that the 2 meals I enjoyed the most were both at Wineries . Next day was AVIERO a beautiful town with great shopping and a very enjoyable Gondola ride. We journeyed on to COIMBRA where we had a lovely lunch then toured the University which was gorgeous. We then drove to NAZARE’ and arrived just prior to sunset. The views were incredible, the Hotel Praia was very nice with excellent staff. My Son and I went exploring and had Dinner at Taberna D’Adelia where we enjoyed a delicious local Fish Stew with excellent wine and service. It was a little off the Main Street but close to the Hotel. I dragged myself out of bed the next morning and we went on to Lisbon. We enjoyed a walking tour and lunch on our own. I’m glad that the ALFAMA district was included because I’m not sure I could have done it later. I cried “uncle” after that. The Hotel was very nice, and well located except for the road construction that closed the street. On the last morning luckily the Bus was able to back down the street to pick us up with our luggage. We were treated to a beautiful Sunrise on the way to the Airport. Thank you for arranging our flights close to the whole group because we were able to do both AirPort rides with them. I came home with 3 bottles of wine and 1 bottle of 20 year old Tawny Port.
It was a wonderful trip, in case you’re wondering
This was probably way more info than you wanted to get but I had to say THANK YOU to you both. Best regards, Debi Bridgforth
