Join the Mayor and Council to select the special characteristics, themes and stories the documentary will feature. People from our city's diverse communities, including students, businesses and nonprofits, are encouraged to get involved with the film by attending:

"Our Town-Rockville" Story Conference
Saturday, Sept. 20
9:30 a.m.-Noon
Rockville Senior Center

1150 Carnation Drive

RSVP is requested, but not required, to ourtown@rockvillemd.gov.

About the 'Our Town' Project
Maryland Public Television's "Our Town" is a series of 60-minute programs showcasing Maryland municipalities. The first three installments profiled Chestertown, Hagerstown and Cumberland. The program illustrates what makes the community a special place to live and work through original film footage and commentary from area residents. The program features local landmarks and points of interest, with residents telling what they like about living and working in the community.

Work on the Rockville program will begin in September 2014. The documentary will air on MPT beginning in September 2015. MPT hosts a story conference with community leaders before filming begins. The results of the story conference define the content of the program. MPT provides handheld cameras to residents to gather the footage for the film.

Learn More
Maryland Public Television presented the project at Mayor and Council meetings on
June 16 and July 14, 2014.

Become a Sponsor

The Rockville Chamber of Commerce has agreed to be one of the sponsors of Our Town and we have also agreed to tell Chamber members and other businesses about the opportunity. Help Reopen Rainbow Place Shelter

Rainbow Place Shelter

Tuesday, October 7

5:00-7:00 PM

215 West Montgomery Ave

Rainbow Place Shelter provides winter emergency overnight shelter to homeless women in a safe, caring environment by supportive staff that treats all guests with dignity and compassion. The shelter has been closed for the summer but will reopen in the fall and the Chamber is going to help by setting up cots, etc. The staff at Rainbow Place has also requested items to be donated for the women coming in November. These items can be dropped off at the shelter:

New blankets, towels, wash cloths, pillows, twin fitted sheets and flip flops (shower shoes)

Directions: Rainbow Place Shelter is located at the Rockville Presbyterian Church. You cannot enter the church lot directly from West Montgomery Ave.  From W. Montgomery Ave., turn onto Forest Ave. Then turn right on Harrison (first street you come to). Go ¾ way down Harrison and the church parking lot is on the right.

The church office is accessible by ringing the door bell under the red canopy. Office hours  are Tue, Wed, Thurs 10-2, Friday 10-1. Rainbow is located on the third floor of the building on the right after you enter the lot. On the right side of the door is a listing for Rainbow, just ring the bell.  Please call the church 301-762-3363 or Rainbow 301-762-1496 before dropping off anything. This will insure someone is available to give the donor a receipt. If you don't want a receipt or are not available when someone is at the building just drop donations off near the door to the office (left side) under the walkway with a note that it is for Rainbow.

Register HERE to participate in the shelter reopening!  You do not have to register to drop off goods or money.
